与其他大型猫科动物相比，东北虎能够容忍与人类共存，并不具有非常强的攻击性。当与人类相距较近时，东北虎常避免直接相遇并快速离开，很少表现出主动攻击性，但在患病、受伤、捕食和保护幼仔时会变得极具攻击性，林区人员应特别注意对患病或受伤虎、幼崽以及捕食点的回避。最常见的人虎冲突发生在居民区或牧场袭击宠物或家畜的时候，偷盗猎和交通冲突也是主要的冲突类型。
